If you really want to show your appreciation, 15%-20% would be an acceptable tip

I remember one time that I was running late for a dinner reservation and the restaurant was kind enough to still seat me. The service and food were absolutely wonderful and I didn't want to leave a poor impression by leaving a small tip, so I left an extra 20% on top of the 15%. This goes to show that you should never underestimate the power of your gratuity or pre-tip amount.

Gratuity can really make or break you as a server as it is basically counted as the difference between salary and tips. Gratuity is generally calculated as 10% of your final bill but if you think that they deserve more then you can give them up to 20% if it fits your budget. Gratuity is about controlling your guest experience and that is why a lot of restaurants have it included in the bill already.

Gratuity will always be factored into your bill whenever you have a table of five or more people, but if you are just two then gratuity will not automatically be added to your bill. Gratuity can also vary from country to country so make sure that when you travel on vacation, know what the norm is where ever you go before tipping extra. In places like Canada and India gratuity on food is almost unheard of while countries like Japan don't tip at all because they feel as though it's an insult.

Gratuity varies from state to state too in some parts of America but 15% - 20% would be a good rule of thumb. Gratuity is a great way to reward exceptional service and it is entirely up to you how much or little you want to tip.
